Ha ha. A question I’ve asked myself a few times…in regards to the what the heck am I doing.
Basically in a nutshell, I got to the point in my life/career where I just wanted to do something on my own. I have learned from and been inspired by a lot of women in business over the past few years and decided it was time to start a business that was just for me. A place where I could be creative and be myself.
So why socks? Well, I’m a bit of a sock hoarder and have a strange affection for putting on a pair of socks that reflect maybe my mood that day or match something I’m wearing, or even some faves that I have had a really good ride while wearing and now they feel lucky. So weird, I know. But I guess we all have certain things in our wardrobe that we like to buy too much of.
I also have a deep dislike for socks that rub, fall down, or make my feet too hot. So my manufacturer search began…
Without going into a long detailed story about that, it took many months to get myself organized and find what I was looking for. I began looking at different designs and picking things I loved, but that I also hoped other people would love as well. It’s a personal thing picking a design. You are going out on a limb of choosing something that appeals to you, but obviously the end goal is to have others love it and want to buy it. Strangely, my hubby actually would like me to make a profit eventually with this, lol.
So, after I was set with some initial designs and a manufacturer, it was time to decide on a name and all the business details related to that. Red Barn Socks popped into my head one day when I was walking across my pasture, looked at my red barn and there it was. So simple and really reflects the love I have for our small farm in the country and the animals we shelter in that little red barn. All the boring paperwork commenced, I waited eagerly for my first shipment to arrive and voila, here we are.
